Rustic Harmony: A Modern Farmhouse in Coatesville

Our clients had two primary aspirations: to maximize the panoramic views of the surrounding bush and mature trees, and to design a home that embodies "something similar to a farmhouse with a modern twist." This inspiring brief set the stage for a creative and rewarding design journey.

To evoke the desired farmhouse aesthetic, we incorporated a sloped rafter ceiling and vertical timber battens, enhancing the sense of height in the central living space while infusing a rustic charm into the interior. A folded metal roof mirrors the crisp lines of the battens, striking a harmonious balance between traditional elements and contemporary design.

This expansive central area serves as the ideal entertaining hub our clients envisioned, seamlessly extending into an open-plan interior that flows onto a northwest-facing deck overlooking the stunning native bush. Vertical fins and timber battens subtly delineate spaces without the need for solid walls, allowing sunlight to permeate throughout the home.

In crafting the home's layout, we meticulously considered the natural path of the sun and the journey from arrival to entry. Approaching from the driveway, visitors are greeted by a welcoming courtyard leading to the front door. Upon entering, a large picture window immediately offers a glimpse of the breathtaking views beyond, drawing the eye through the house to the deck and the lush landscape.

To the right of the entrance, a cozy nook with bench seating provides a casual dining area or a relaxed spot for socializing. To the left, the spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas invite gathering and connection, all oriented to capture the warmth of the sun and the beauty of the outdoors.
